There is a statement that we frequently hear from our patients “I saw/heard a commercial and it said that I could have a dental implant and crown on the same day.” There is some truth to what many are hearing on the T.V. or radio ads but what people are not hearing is that there are a number of appointments that are needed before and even after the “same day” happens. A dental implant is a replacement for a tooth root. In order to place a dental implant there needs to be a good foundation of bone to hold the implant. A dental implant needs to be stable for a length of time before it is strong enough to withstand the everyday forces we put on our teeth. In order to keep an implant stable we must keep any stress off the implant while it is in the healing process especially the first 6-8 weeks as the bone is going through changes around your new root. Please call our office to find out more about dental implants for you or someone you know.
